Most of the students are not much worried about airport pickup, even though it’s not a big issue but still it’s better if you have some proper arrangement of pickup. Flight timings varies, many flights arrive at night time so there may be some difficulty in going to your accommodation and it does matter if you are coming to Australia for the first time.
Most of the universities provide free airport pickup service so it’s better to save money by availing this opportunity. You just need to provide your flight timings in Australian Time. Your university will tell you how you can recognize the person who came to pick you. Also he may have got your name or list of student names so you can double check it. If you are accompanied by parents or some other person who is not a student then most probably the service provider will charge you. Contact your university for more information in this case.
If you know some one who is already in Australia then its better to contact him incase your university do not provide free service. Vehicles are very cheap in Australia and also the fuel prices are not that high as in overseas, so it can be arranged easily.
Don’t worry if above conditions are not true for you. You can easily hire a taxi, there are too many in airport. Taxi drivers will charge you according to meter reading, so there is no way of cheating. Night time taxi fare is usually greater as compare to day time, I don’t know exactly how much the difference is but I think it is 50%. Like if you can go to your accommodation for paying $20 at day time then at night time it may be $30. Night time usually start from 12:00a.m to 5:00 a.m.
