Points Of IELTS Test While Applying For Skilled Residence Visa:
IELTS tests the complete range of English language skills which will commonly be encountered by students when studying or training in the medium of English. All candidates take the same Listening and Speaking Modules. There is an option of either Academic or General Training Reading and Writing Modules. Academic is suitable for candidates planning to undertake higher education study. General Training is suitable for candidates planning to undertake non academic training or work experience, or for immigration purposes.
You must demonstrate that you meet the English language threshold. This means that you must already have your English language test results before you lodge your application.
In most cases, the English language threshold is at the competent English level and this will give you 15 points, while on proficient level you will be able to achieve 25 points.
You also meet the English language threshold and will receive 15 points if you meet one of the following:
- you have vocational English and your nominated occupation is a trade occupation
- you hold an eligible passport from either:
- United Kingdom (UK)
- Canada
- New Zealand
- United States of America (USA)
- Republic of Ireland.
If you wish to claim 25 points you will need to meet the required English language test results for proficient English.
The following table shows the English language levels and the evidence you will need to provide.
1. Proficient Level:
If your English level is Proficient then you will get 25 points in your IELTS. It is the highest points you can get from IELTS.
Evidence Required: You must provide one of the following:
- IELTS Test Report Form (TRF) Number to show you have a band score of at least seven (7) on each of the four (4) components – speaking, reading, listening and writing.
- Or Evidence of having achieved a score of `B´ or higher on each of the four (4) components of the OET Test.
2. Competent Level:
If your English level is Competent then you will get 15 points.
Evidence Required: You must provide one of the following:
- Evidence that you hold an eligible passport
- IELTS TRF Number to show you have a band score of at least six (6) on each of the four (4) components – speaking, reading, listening and writing.
3. Vocational:
In this case, you will get only 15 points.
Evidence Required: You must provide one of the following:
- Evidence that you hold an eligible passport
- IELTS TRF Number to show you have a band score of at least five (5) on each of the four (4) components.
